During a study on the liveability of 555 neighbourhoods in Sydney were studied to determine what neighbourhood ranks the best. Indicators such as crime levels, transport, traffic, education, employment, culture, telecommunication coverage, and scenic views were some of the 16 indicators that were used. Northern Beaches Areas in Sydney
1. Queenscliff

Queenscliff that was named in honour of Queen Victoria proved with supremacy to be the best proven liveable neighbourhood in Sydney. It is true that peak hour traffic is no pleasure, and yes, it lack some trains, however, on the other aspects, it is a neighbourhood that have ranked the best in ocean views, access to busses, open spaces, and access to the beach. Others factors that received a high thumbs up are telecommunication coverage, views, culture, cafes, and the low crime rate.

2. Manly

It comes as no surprise that the famous Manly is ranking high as one of the most liveable neighbourhoods. Regrettably it is the crime rate, traffic congestion, and the lack of train services that placed it in the second spot. Regardless of the drawbacks, Manly is a great place for people who love the outdoors with the vast open spaces, good tree coverage, and of course the beach. The ferry wharf is a major attraction along with the abundance of diners, restaurants, and cafes.

3. Dee Why

In the third place Dee Why scores the top results for the entire 1.2 km beach and breathtaking ocean views. Other factors that lifted the score were the bus transportation, shops, cafes, schools, and the superior internet and mobile phone coverage. The drawbacks are the congested traffic on main roads and train services.

4. Freshwater

Freshwater is just missing the top 3 due to a lack of train serves and traffic congestion on the main roads. Otherwise it is in a well deserved fourth place for the scenic water views, ferry links, schools, restaurants, cafes, culture, and topographic deviation.

5. Balgowlah

Once again the down part on liveability in Balgowlah is the lack of train access and congested traffic. Fortunately liveability is improved by many more positive factors such as good telecommunication coverage, open spaces, good tree coverage, water views, topographic deviation, culture, and close by beaches. Rating average was the busses, shops, education, nearness to employment, and eating out.

6. Manly Vale

The top liveability scores for Manly Vale are for the good telecommunication coverage and shopping. Good scores are received for beach access, tree coverage, open spaces, and ferry links through Manly. Factors such as lack of train transport and congested traffic during peak hour pulled down the score.

7. Davidson

Davidson for part of The Forest district and is one of the smallest inland neighbourhoods in the northern beaches area. It is regarded as one of the most liveable neighbourhoods because of the vast open spaces, tree coverage, topographic deviation, and low crime rate. It rates average in the majority of other aspects such as beach access, cafes, restaurants, education, bus links, and traffic congestion.

8. Curl Curl

Apart from the non existence of trains and traffic congestion on the main roads, Curl Curl compensate with above average or average scores in all the other aspects. Clearly the beach will be a top scorer with culture, close ferry access, bus transport, and telecommunication coverage following close by. Scores for water views, restaurants, shops, tree coverage, closeness to employment, and education is rated average.

9. Killarney Heights

In Killarney Heights the liveability ups and downs are diverse. The top contenders are tree coverage, open spaces, low crime, culture, and good telecommunication coverage. Another significant plus is the un-congested main roads. The drawbacks are public transport, eating out, shops, and jobs.

10. Clontarf

Clontarf is located across the water from The Spit. Although it is in the tenth place, it is regarded as one of the top performers considering aspects such as topographic deviation, beach access, water views, and telecommunication coverage. It rates above average with low crime, tree cover, open spaces, and culture. The drawbacks responsible for the tenth place are no train links, few bus stops, and traffic congestion at The Split.
